We have covered some of the tourist places in Sylhet here, but there are still some places inside Sylhet City that are rich in history, heritage, and undeniable beauty. These locations are definitely worth visiting.
As our WordCamp venue is the Central Auditorium of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST), we will provide directions on how to get to the mentioned locations from the SUST gate.
Ali Amjad Clock Tower & Surma Riverside
The Ali Amjad Clock Tower is a landmark located in the city of Sylhet, Bangladesh. It is a significant clock tower that was constructed during the British colonial era and was given the name Ali Amjad in honor of a well-known Sylheti Muslim leader.
Not only is the Ali Amjad Clock Tower a beautiful landmark but it’s also surrounded by street food carts where you can grab a bite to eat. The Surma River flows right alongside it, making it a picturesque spot to spend some time. You can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee, as well as local delicacies such as Fuchka and Chotpoti from the food vendors. It’s a great place to relax and take in the views.
Caution: Being located in the heart of the city, this place tends to be noisier compared to the other locations mentioned in our blog. If you visit during the afternoon, the sun’s heat can be quite intense. Therefore, it is recommended to plan your visit in the evening when the weather is cooler and more pleasant.
How to go: From the SUST gate, take a CNG Auto Rickshaw and go to Bondor Bazar Point. Local CNG Auto Rickshaw can be available for 25-30 tk. From Bondor Bazar Point, you can go to the place on foot or you can take a Rickshaw which will take 10tk.
SUST (University campus around the venue)
SUST is known for its excellent academic programs in science, engineering, and technology. The university has a beautiful campus spread over an area of 320 acres, surrounded by greenery and hills. It has state-of-the-art facilities, including modern laboratories, libraries, and research centers, to support the academic and research needs of students and faculty.
We recommend having some time to enjoy the beauty of the SUST.
Guabari Walkway
This particular location holds a special place in the writer’s heart. While the whole city is under the heat of the sun, this place offers a refreshing and cooler experience.
The location is surrounded by the tea garden, especially in the evening you can pass a refreshing time with a group of people or alone. Tea stalls and small fast-food shops are available there.
There is also an indoor field available if you would rather play indoor football. However, you must reserve it one day in advance.

Caution: The area is slightly remote area. It is recommended to seek assistance from someone familiar with the area or have a local guide accompany you when navigating this place.
How to go: From the SUST gate, take a CNG Auto Rickshaw and go to Pathantula Point. CNG will take 10-15tk. From there, take a Tom-tom Auto Rickshaw or Rickshaw to reach Guabari Walkway.

The first walkway in the sylhet is Guabari Walkway but there are still more walkway in sylhet where you can enjoy your time. We will introduce some of them in shortly.
Jallarpar Walkway
The Jallarpar Walkway is located in Jallarpar, Zindabazar, Sylhet. It is a short walkway that features a small park beside to it. A few food carts available on there where visitors can have a variety of options, including tea, juice, and fast food. It’s a delightful spot to enjoy a leisurely stroll while savoring tasty treats from the local vendors.
Dhopa Dighir Par Walkway
Situated in the heart of Sylhet city, this expansive park offers a serene retreat for visitors. With its picturesque lake, dedicated children’s play area, and well-maintained walking paths, it has become a beloved destination for families and picnickers alike. Whether you’re looking for a leisurely stroll, a place for children to play, or a peaceful spot to relax by the water, this park provides a delightful escape in the bustling city center of Sylhet.
TB Gate walkway
The TB Gate Walkway, constructed by the Sylhet City Corporation, is the second walkway in the Sylhet city area. It serves as a commendable initiative for individuals who enjoy walking alone or with their families during the morning or evening hours. This walkway also provides a convenient resting spot for cyclists.
With its stunning lighting, the TB Gate Walkway presents a captivating sight at night, drawing the attention of both locals and pedestrians. It is important for all of us to uphold our responsibility in keeping this place clean and well-maintained. By doing so, we can contribute to the enjoyment and preservation of this beautiful walkway for everyone to appreciate.
Shahjalal Dorgah
Muslims from all over the country frequently visit the Dargah as a place of pilgrimage. It is also a well-liked vacation spot. The Dargah is a sizable complex made up of numerous structures and courtyards. The tomb of Shah Jalal is the primary structure. It is a large, marble-floored structure with a domed shape. The compound around by mosques, religious school, and public cemetery. It is currently the biggest and most popular religious site in Bangladesh.
Shahjalal Dargah is the shrine and burial place of the 14th century Muslim saint Shah Jalal. It was contructed on 1500 C. It is highly respected by Bengalis and has many local stories and legends associated with it.
How to go: From sust gate, take a local CNG Rickshaw to reach Amberkana Point. From there, you can go to Shahjalal Dorgah on foot or take a Rickshaw to go.
Shahporan Dorgah
Like Shahjalal Dorgah, it serves as a site of worship for the Muslim Ummah. Shah Poran, born in Yemen during the 13th century. He was a knowledgeable and skilled warrior who hailed from the lineage of Prophet Muhammad. In the 14th century, he responded to the invitation of his maternal uncle, Shah Jalal, a Sufi saint, and journeyed to Sylhet. There, Shah Poran actively supported Shah Jalal in spreading Islam throughout the region.
On 14th century he past away, and his final resting place lies near his Sufi lodge, known as a khanqah. Over time, a dargah complex was constructed, encompassing his tomb, along with a mosque, a library, a guesthouse, and a free kitchen called langar khana. This dargah has become a revered pilgrimage site for Muslims worldwide.
The Urs of Shah Poran is observed on the 4th, 5th, and 6th day of Rabi-ul-Awal, marking the anniversary of his passing. The Urs is a religious festival that commemorates the death of a saint. During this occasion, people from all over the country gather at the dargah to offer prayers and pay homage to Shah Poran.
The Shah Poran Dargah stands as a serene and captivating place, serving as a sanctuary for prayer, reflection, and the dissemination of knowledge about Islam. It holds immense significance for Muslims across the globe.
How to go: Take a local CNG Auto Rickshaw from sust gate to reach Amberkana Point. Similarly, from Amberkana Point, you can continue your journey to Tilagaon Point by taking another CNG Auto Rickshaw. Once you arrive at Tilagaon Point, you’ll need to board yet another CNG Auto Rickshaw to reach your final destination.
Tilagarh Eco Park
A good place to get a break and spend quiet time outside the ever bustling city of Sylhet. The Eco Park is located in the Tilagarh Sylhet and the are of the park is around 112-acre. It was established in 2006 by the Sylhet Forest Department. The park opens its gates at 9 AM and remains accessible until 9 PM. To enter and enjoy its tranquil atmosphere, visitors are required to pay a nominal entry fee.
The park’s environment, especially on a pleasant day, truly lives up to its reputation, despite a somewhat limited diversity of animals and birds. There are deers, a couple of zebra, python, lots of varieties of birds both exotic and local and a whole lot of monkeys in the park. There is also a kids playground in the middle of the park. But be cautious! The monkeys can sometimes be aggressive.
How to go: The park is little outside from the sust gate so we recommend for the newbie to hire a CNG Auto Rickshaw to reach there. The cost will be 150-200 tk.
