Location
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) is located in Kumargaon, on the outskirts of the city of Sylhet in Bangladesh. The campus is located on the Sylhet Sunamgang Highway, approximately six kilometers from the heart of downtown Sylhet.
Directions to SUST from Various Locations in Sylhet
Getting to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) from different parts of Sylhet is relatively easy. Unfortunately, neither Uber nor Pathao car service is available in Sylhet. However, you can still book Pathao bike ride service from anywhere. For transportation options to campus, we’ll only be considering public transportation. Here’s a comprehensive guide to assist you in finding your way to campus.
From Sylhet Osmani International Airport
By Cng Auto Rickshaw: Upon arriving at the airport, you can easily find CNG auto rickshaws available outside the terminal. Inform the driver that you want to go to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). The journey usually takes around 25-30 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
From Sylhet Railway Station
By CNG Auto-rickshaw / Rickshaw: Outside the railway station, you will find numerous auto-rickshaws (locally known as “CNGs”). Negotiate the fare and inform the driver that you want to go to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Kumargaon. The ride generally takes about 15-20 minutes.
Another option for reaching to SUST campus is by rickshaw. But the journey would take around 40 minutes.
From Sylhet Central Bus Terminal
By CNG Auto-rickshaw: Just outside the bus terminal, you can hire an auto-rickshaw (CNG) to reach SUST. Communicate your destination clearly to the driver, mentioning that you want to go to Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). The journey typically takes around 30 minutes.
Similarly to Sylhet Railway Station, rickshaws can also be found in the bus station.
From Amberkhana Intersection
For those of you who will be staying at hotels near Ambarkhana, it will be convenient to reach the intersection and make your way to the SUST campus by a few different means from here. At the Amberkhana intersection, you will find several local CNG auto rickshaws passing by SUST.
Hop on any of those CNGs and tell the CNG driver to drop you off at the gate. The journey typically takes around 15 minutes, depending on the traffic.
Important Note: The central auditorium is located approximately 1.8 kilometers away from the SUST gate. Upon reaching the SUST gate, you can easily continue your journey to the central auditorium by hopping on an auto-rickshaw.

Mosques and Prayer Facilities
As the event is scheduled on Friday, it is important to provide information about prayer facilities. There are a couple of options available:
The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) Central Mosque is approximately 1.5 kilometers from the Central Auditorium. Attendees can make use of this mosque for Friday prayers.
Another option for Friday prayers is the mosque located at Shahporan Hall, which is within the SUST campus. This is the closest mosque to the location. Unfortunately, it doesn’t hold many people, so be the first to arrive.
There are a few additional options available in the nearby area of “Noyabazar”, which is approximately 1.2 kilometers away from the event location.
Please be aware that the Jummah Khutba at nearby locations typically begins at 1 PM. Our volunteers will provide a reminder and announce the specific time and location.
Explore and Roam Around within SUST Campus
Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) is famous for its natural beauty, as the campus is located in a picturesque location surrounded by lush greenery and small hills. From a beauty and natural point of view, SUST offers a captivating setting that will enhance the overall experience for WordCamp attendees.
When you step into the vast 320-acre campus of SUST, you’ll be amazed by the breathtaking natural beauty surrounding you. As you walk along a scenic 1 KM Long road, bordered by majestic trees and accompanied by two peaceful lakes, you’ll feel a sense of tranquility and serenity. Experience a peaceful ambiance by taking a stroll on the road or the walkway.
A wonderful destination to explore while in SUST is the Shaheed Minar, situated atop a small hill. It is renowned as one of the most stunning Shaheed Minars in Bangladesh. Although you’ll need to climb 100 stairs, the captivating scenery will refresh you and alleviate any tiredness.
If you have an appreciation for nature, visiting the impressive small hills within Sust, particularly Gaji Kalu Tilla, is highly recommended. It is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the surroundings.
If you’re feeling nostalgic about your university days, you could visit the food court or tongs of E-building and enjoy a cup of tea. The atmosphere of young people, their conversations, music, and liveliness will surely bring back memories of your unforgettable university life.
